UK blockchain companies raised £830m across 148 deals in 2022 — the sector’s all-time peak, driven by the post-pandemic crypto wave. Annual investment has held above £490m every year since: £494m in 2023, £516m in 2024, £564m in 2025, with the first quarter of 2026 delivering £150m across 28 deals. Across all time, UK blockchain companies have raised £4.17b in equity funding tracked by Beauhurst, with 80% of that total arriving since the start of 2020.
We’ve ranked the top 100 blockchain companies by total equity raised (all data sourced from the Beauhurst platform).
An overview of the blockchain sector
Blockchain covers companies building distributed ledger infrastructure and applications — typically using cryptographic consensus mechanisms to enable trust without a central authority. UK blockchain companies span crypto custody and digital asset trading, anti-money-laundering and compliance tooling, decentralised finance (DeFi) protocols, real-world asset tokenisation, blockchain-based payments and interbank settlement, Web3 consumer applications, NFT marketplaces and digital identity, blockchain gaming, enterprise distributed ledger systems, and supply chain provenance tracking.
Beauhurst tracks 1,084 active blockchain companies in the UK, up from 169 in the final quarter of 2015 — a 541% increase over the decade and one of the highest growth rates we’ve measured in any sector. Together, these companies generated £1.99b in turnover according to latest financials and support an estimated 6,879 employees across the UK. Across all time, blockchain companies have raised £4.17b in equity funding tracked on the platform. The 2022 peak (£830m) coincided with the post-pandemic crypto wave; annual investment has since stabilised at a sustained level above £490m, with 2025 delivering £564m and the first quarter of 2026 alone bringing in £150m.
Key findings
- Improbable tops the ranking with £664m raised. The London-based venture builder originally built large-scale simulation infrastructure before pivoting to AI, Web3, and metaverse ventures in 2022, and accounts for 16% of all UK blockchain equity raised to date — a dispersed top similar to LawTech.
- Blockchain.com (£473m, North West) in crypto wallets and market data takes second, followed by Copper (£238m, London) in institutional digital asset custody, Fnality (£237m, London) in blockchain-based interbank payments, and Exohood Labs (£232m, London) in blockchain R&D. The top five account for 44% of all UK blockchain equity raised — a moderate concentration that reflects the sector’s dispersed structure relative to the more consolidated sectors we’ve covered.
- London dominates with 79 of the top 100 — the third-highest London share we’ve measured in any sector. The South East, South West, and East of England follow with four entries each, then the North West (three), West Midlands (three), East of Scotland (two), and Wales (one). The top 100 spans eight UK regions, with Wales represented by Coincover (£31.6m) and Scotland by BetDEX Labs and Citizen Ticket.
- Venture-stage businesses lead the top 100 with 44 entries, followed by seed (33), growth (16), and established (three), with two exited and two dead. The 77 early-stage companies in the top 100 give blockchain the highest combined seed and venture proportion we’ve measured in any 100-company sector — only Improbable, B2C2, and Quantum Blockchain Technologies have reached established status, reflecting how young this sector remains at the top despite a decade of growth.
