Beauhurst’s up-to-date list of UK unicorns. Last updated: 17th November 2018

A unicorn startup or unicorn company is a startup which manages to reach a valuation of $1b (currently about £760m) or more. The term “unicorn” refers to the rarity of startups which achieve this much success. However, UK unicorn startups are becoming a more common sight, particularly in London. Here is our list of the current UK unicorns, alongside unicorns that have exited, and businesses that are rumoured to have reached unicorn status.

Company Details
DeepMind
Founded in early 2011, DeepMind grew rapidly, and was acquired by Google for £400m in 2014. They were well on their way to a $1b valuation.

Other companies sometimes described as UK unicorns include BGL Group, Global Switch, Radius Payment Solutions and Durham’s Atom Bank. However, the first three are not startups – they are large, well established companies that have been going since the 90s. Meanwhile, our own research has confirmed that Atom Bank’s latest valuation does not exceed $600m (as of September 2018). If you have further questions, please get in touch
