Decrypting the UK’s high-growth quantum technology companies

In collaboration with Barclays Eagle Labs, we explore the UK’s quantum technology sector, highlighting the top sub-sectors, investors and funding trends.

This report assesses the 51 active, high-growth companies in the UK operating within the quantum technology sector. Almost half (47.1%) of these companies are academic spinouts, highlighting the strong influence of academia in shaping the relatively nascent industry.

In 2022, these companies secured £98.9m in equity investment and an additional £24.8m in grant funding, marking a record year for the sector. This investment, alongside university and government support, plays a vital role in the continued development of quantum technology, and ensuring the UK is well-placed to become a global leader in the space.
