Spotlight on Spinouts 2024

In continued collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering, we analyse the changes in the UK’s academic spinout landscape.

The 1,317 active, academic spinout companies account for 2.53% of the UK’s high-growth company population but continue to outperform their size. Spinout companies raised £1.6bn in equity funding in 2023, 9.54% of equity funding raised by UK companies across the year.

In the fourth addition of the Spotlight on Spinouts report, we examine the demographics of the spinout population, their sources of funding, as well as the disputed issue of equity stakes held by founders and universities.
