Top 100 UK Fintech Startups | 2026

The UK has long been one of Europe’s leading fintech hubs, producing some of the best-known names in digital banking, payments and financial infrastructure. But behind the sector’s established players, a new generation of fintech startups is continuing to emerge.

In this ranking, we’ve used the Beauhurst platform to identify 100 UK-headquartered fintech startups at the Seed stage of evolution, then ranked them by the total equity funding they have raised.

That distinction matters. This is not a list of the UK’s biggest fintech companies. It is a snapshot of the early-stage businesses currently attracting the most equity investment, from payments and lending to financial infrastructure, wealth technology and emerging applications of AI.

UK fintech startups: sector overview

Fintech – short for financial technology – describes technology used to deliver, improve or reshape financial services. The sector spans areas including banking, payments, lending, insurance, wealth management, compliance and the infrastructure that sits behind financial products.

For startups, fintech often means using software, data and automation to solve problems that have traditionally been expensive, slow or difficult to address. That can mean making payments easier, improving access to credit, automating financial operations or building the technology used by banks and other financial institutions.

On the Beauhurst platform, companies are classified according to what they actually do, helping us identify fintech businesses beyond the limitations of traditional SIC codes.

Methodology

To be included in this list of fintech companies, companies must be:

  • Headquartered in the UK
  • Operating in the ‘Fintech’ Beauhurst industry classification
  • The company must be at the “Seed” stage of evolution on the Beauhurst platform.
  • Listed as ‘Active’ on Companies House

We’ve then ranked these companies by total equity raised.

And if you’re a Beauhurst subscriber, you can try this search for yourself.

The state of UK fintech startups

The UK remains one of Europe’s most developed fintech ecosystems. More than 4,400 fintech companies are currently active, an increase of 181% over the ten years from 2015 to 2025. Collectively, UK fintech companies have raised £37.4b in equity funding, including £24.5b since 2020.

Investment has cooled from the exceptional levels seen in 2021, when UK fintech companies raised £7.79b. Even so, the sector attracted £3.24b in equity funding during 2025, showing that investor appetite remains substantial.

These figures describe the wider UK fintech sector across all stages of growth. The ranking below takes a narrower view, focusing only on companies at the Seed stage of evolution on the Beauhurst platform. This makes it easier to see which early-stage fintech startups are currently leading the pack by total equity raised.

The future of fintech companies in the UK

The next wave of UK fintech is likely to look different from the challenger-bank boom that defined much of the 2010s. AI, automation, embedded finance and blockchain are creating new opportunities across everything from payments and treasury to compliance, investment and financial infrastructure.

At the same time, the market has become more selective. New fintech company incorporations fell from 397 in 2019 to 77 in 2025, while funding remains well below its 2021 peak. For early-stage companies, that puts more emphasis on strong products, clear use cases and the ability to demonstrate sustainable growth.

That makes Seed-stage activity particularly useful to watch. The companies attracting capital today can provide an early indication of where investors see the next opportunities in financial technology.
